Dance of the Forest

This kinetic sculpture is made from a single Ash tree that grew a few miles from my workshop in Cumbria, and was installed in the new luxury Renaissance Hotel in Washington DC.

The sculpture contains 4 hidden electric motors that rotate different parts of the sculpture at varying directions and speeds so slow that with a glance you might not see it moving - so like in the forest nothing is ever as it seems.

Materials: locally sourced green Ash (steam-bent)

Finish: 10 different natural and synthetic pigments, fire-proof varnish
