Road trip to the moon
Metropolitan Workshop and Charlie Whinney Assoicates collaborated on an installation for the London Festival of Architecture 2008.
The installation recounts the fact that if all the public roads in the UK were laid end to end they could reach from the earth to the moon and beyond! 40% of these roads are in urban areas.
In the sculpture, the earth, moon and length of the road are built in proportions to each other at a scale of 1:10000. It is 384,403km between the earth and moon, and there are 388,008km of UK public roads.
